Murcia Regional partners, Ticbiomed and the Regional Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia (INFO), have organised a Regional Workshop to present the PREPARE project’s purpose and approach among the main regional stakeholders related to procurement of innovation. The participants discussed the state of the art of the procurement of innovation in the region and identified the main challenges but also the opportunities ahead
The workshop counted the participation of 26 people representing different profiles of decision-makers from public administrations, such as the Regional Healthcare System, as well as regional ecosystem stakeholders and companies, who shared their experiences on the design of innovative policies and the deployment and adoption of innovation.

Gorka Sánchez, Responsible for Innovation at the Murcian Healthcare Service mentioned that “Demand-driven innovation is an opportunity for companies to align themselves with the market. It is a business opportunity that can teach many companies how to compete and create awareness of technological innovations in public administration”. He also highlighted the need for commitment of the Public Administration: “Innovation is an added value to our services, and having budgetary reserves for innovation shows a commitment to society. This added value is further increased when the end-user is involved in the co-creation process. It shows that the solution reaches society by involving end-users and giving them social governance”
Some key insights gained during the Workshop were:
- Adoption is key. If there is no adoption, it generates frustration on the different teams.
- Better and clearer needs’ identification is necessary to improve the relationship and understanding among public organisations and innovative companies.
- To improve the adoption from public organisations, there is a need to ensure technical, financial, and regulatory viability.
- Co-creation allows to procure more customised solutions with minor risks.
- It is key to create organisational culture to involve the different teams and departments within an organisation.
- Incorporate ‘’Adoption touchpoints’’ within the overall design of the instrument, criteria and actions that maximise adoption options (by Challengers and Solvers).
